Learn How to Read the Legacy Report

The Screen Accountability report is designed to help allies easily review the screenshots that were captured through our screen monitoring technology. Screenshots in the report will include information about the date, time, browser/app, and title of page.

No Screen Activity to Review

If Covenant Eyes has not detected any concerning screen activity, the summary at the top of the report will indicate that there is nothing to review. The report will still provide several screenshots, selected at random, under “Other Screenshots” that give a fuller sense of a member’s activity.

Screen Activity to Review

When one or more “Concerning Screenshots” or some “Unmonitored Activity” has been detected by the Covenant Eyes Screen Accountability service, the summary at the top of the report will indicate that there is “Screen Activity to Review.”

Concerning Screenshot is the term used when there are screenshots that screen monitoring has detected as potentially having concerning content. This could be a single screenshot or a series of screenshots. The concerning screenshot will not be immediately shown on the report so as not to immediately expose a Chaver (someone receiving a report) to potential pornography. However, clicking on the blue “Inspect” button will allow the Chaver to review the blurred image and temporarily reduce the blur for further clarification.

Unmonitored Screen Activity lets a Chaver know when private browsing, or incognito mode, has been used by the member on an Android™ device. Because private browsing is designed to ensure nothing from an online session is logged in a person’s browser history or search history, it’s important that allies know when it’s being used. Use of a privacy mode is automatically noted in the report and includes details about the browser, device, and time frame. And allies, while being supportive, will consider why the member would try to conceal some online activity.

Activity Missing

If you receive a report for someone you hold accountable that says “Activity Missing,” it could be for one of two reasons.

  1. The member has not installed the Screen Accountability software yet. The Screen Accountability software must be installed first. Once it is installed the Chaver (you) should start seeing image activity on the Screen Accountability reports.
  2. The member is signed in with the wrong username. This can happen on family or multi-member accounts. Covenant Eyes attaches activity to the username signed in. If the wrong username is signed in, all activity will appear on the report of the username that is signed into the device.

Having a conversation with the member about the missing activity will help to provide clarity.

Other Screenshots

“Other Screenshots” include several images that were not detected as concerning by the Screen Accountability software. These images give the Chaver a sense of what the member’s activity looked like over the time period of the report. It also verifies that the software is working, even when nothing concerning is noted. The screenshots shown in this section of the report are 1) selected at random from the member’s non-concerning images, and 2) able to be examined by the Chaver, simply by clicking one of them.

If the Screen Accountability member only uses an iOS device and does not use the iOS CE browser at all during the reporting period this section will report that there are “No Other Screenshots.” In order for Screen Accountability to capture screenshots from a member’s iOS device, we encourage them to disable Safari and use Covenant Eyes as their browser.

Mobile Background Data

The mobile background data section will only appear on a member’s report if they are using our Screen Accountability service on an iPhone® or iPad®.

For our members using an iOS device, we’ve carried over our “whole device monitoring” feature. While we can’t capture any screenshots in applications that are outside of the Covenant Eyes browser, we can still monitor domains accessed by those other applications. Only the domains that are likely explicit will be included as part of the Mobile Background Data section of the Screen Accountability report.

If there are no likely explicit domains to report, we’ll let the Chaver know that there was no concerning mobile background data.


This section of the report displays the devices that the member used during the reporting period. If the same device shows up multiple times in the list, that usually means the member uninstalled and reinstalled the Covenant Eyes app/software.

Image Inspector

If the Chaver needs further clarity on a particular screenshot in the report, they will have the option to briefly reduce the screenshot’s level of blurring for a slightly clearer image. The Image Inspector can be found by clicking on the individual screenshot in the report. This will change the screen and present the option to “Decrease Blur.” For a brief amount of time, the screenshot in question will become clearer, though still blurred. There is a reset time in between the blur reduction so as to not expose a Chaver for an unregulated amount of time.


How often will I receive the Screen Accountability report*?

How often you receive the report should match the frequency of the reports you were receiving prior to Screen Accountability’s release. The only exception will be if you or your Chaver were receiving the report every 14, 21, or 30 days. The report will now be sent every seven days. Currently, Screen Accountability reports are sent at least once a week.

Are there any URLs or web addresses associated with the images on the report?

With the Screen Accountability reports, there are no URLs or web addresses associated with the screenshots. We will be able to report the time, date, app name, and window title for each image.

Why can’t I reduce the blur on an image from the report?

If you are inspecting an image on the report and there is no option to “Decrease Blur,” this means that this image is already at the lowest level of blur. Our Screen Accountability technology has two levels of blurring that are applied to each image detected. An image that has been detected as containing concerning content will be blurred more than an image that was not seen as having concerning content. A message below the image you are inspecting will alert you if the image is already at the lowest level of blur.

Can I call Customer Service to have them review a screenshot I have questions about?

Customer Service employees do not have access to any of these screenshots and would be unable to answer any questions about them. Allies and members should communicate with each other about the screenshots on the report to maintain a strong accountability relationship. The Image Inspector feature on our Screen Accountability reports should help to answer any questions the Chaver has.

Can I opt out of receiving the Screen Accountability report?

Accounts created on March 5, 2019 or later do NOT have the option to opt out.

A member can choose to opt out from using the Screen Accountability service at any time. However, if you are a Chaver who is holding an individual accountable and they are using Screen Accountability, the only report you will receive for them is the Screen Accountability report. The only exception is that if the member failed to update to the Screen Accountability software on at least one of their devices, then allies will receive both a Screen Accountability report as well as an Internet Accountability report for the device with the older service.

Why are these screenshots shown on the report?

Our screen monitoring software selects screenshots that are likely to be Concerning Screenshots. If there are none, we will instead display a selection of screenshots that are representative of the member’s device usage under the Other Screenshots section.

Why are the screenshots so fuzzy?

The screenshots on the report are blurred so as to keep the Chaver safe from potentially explicit content as well as the member’s private information. All screenshots on the report will have some level of blurring regardless of whether or not they contain concerning content.
